Nicholas “Head” Colleluori was a true hero that defined the word “Relentless” in his battle against Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Nicholas was amazing person, an undersized athlete that was noted for his aggressiveness and character on the field. In his sophomore year at Hofstra University, after experiencing allergy like symptoms, he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a vicious type of blood cancer that affects the lymphatic system. He battled the disease relentlessly for 14 months, undergoing chemotherapy, radiation, stem cell transplant, and experimental treatments. He was a true inspiration. While sick, Nicholas counseled fellow patients and continued to workout on a regular basis. He possessed such determination and drive that while undergoing treatments he found the strength to participate in one last game in August 2006. Nicholas passed away on November 28, 2006. And even though he is gone, his memory will live on forever with HEADstrong Foundation. By displaying the “HEAD” decal, you are committing to playing relentlessly and telling teammates about Nick and how he lived his life. While Nicholas was fighting his disease he created HEADstrong Foundation, which is a lacrosse based non-profit organization that generates funds for blood cancer research and provides financial assistance to families that are experiencing the hardships of having a sick family member. He also had the vision of creating an elite competitive boy’s lacrosse team, to be called Team HEADstrong that would participate in competitive tournaments throughout the year and act as a recruitment tool for collegiate coaches. Aside from playing lacrosse the team would partake in awareness events and generate funds for the cause throughout the year. Nick’s vision of a competitive team came to fruition in the summer of 2006 when Team HEADstrong took the field in their Lymphoma Awareness lime green uniforms. Your purchase of the Relentless Stringing Kit is the first step in joining our effort to continue Nick’s vision. This is his legacy!
Please go to the HEADstrong Store to place your String Kit order today!! “Make use of the time you have & don’t stress the little things. Have a smile and enjoy what you can get out of life.” - Nick Colleluori |

Ware Lacrosse Laces Up for Blood Cancer
The Waves are participating in the HEADstrong Foundation’s “Laces for Lymphoma” program where, in exchange for $10, they receive a pair of lime green HEADstrong shoe laces. The HEADstrong Foundation was created by Nick Collelouri, a Hofstra University lacrosse player who eventually succumbed to Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma in 2006 at the age of 21 years old. Prior to Hofstra University, Nick played lacrosse at Ridley High School, just outside of Philadelphia; the same high school where Waves’ coach Chris Petrone played several years prior to Nick’s tenure. The lacrosse program at Ridley is rich with tradition; so Petrone felt the Laces for Lymphoma program was not only benefiting a great cause, but also a natural fit for the budding Ware Academy lacrosse program.
The Laces for Lymphoma program is a simple idea that has created not only a fluorescent-green buzz in the youth, high school, and college sports realm; but has also raised over $50,000 towards fighting blood cancers. The Waves’ lacrosse team joins the ranks of some powerful and well-known college lacrosse programs around the country also wearing the lime green laces including: Collelouri’s alma mater - Hofstra, Loyola College (Md), Penn State, Notre Dame, Army, and Drexel University. Lacrosse players are not the only ones donning the HEADstrong laces. They can also be found on athletes playing volleyball, soccer, and baseball.Ware lacrosse players have a lot to be proud of. Hopefully the laces will create an even larger sense of pride knowing they are a part of something so much bigger than we are.

Sitting in front of his locker, Drew Adams' thought process is the same before every game. As he throws his shirts and pads over his head, he prepares like any other athlete -- until he slides into his cleats. |
